Carl is one of Europe’s finest guitarists, he has played with artists such as Billy Cobham, Nathan Haines and Dale Barlow. His latest album 'Deep Down' is on sale on his website www.Carlorr.com 

Carl started the master class with songs from is own albums, joined by Darryn Farrugia on drums and Andrew McKinney on bass.  His music is very melodic from his jazz/rock pieces to his slower ballads.  His amazing tone helps create his sound, he uses a delay pedal and he often uses a wah wah pedal.

Carl talked about developing your own sound as an improviser. He got a degree student up to demonstrate different ways of getting out of playing the same licks. He demonstrated improvising on 1 string at a time. He talked of transcribing Miles Davis trumpet solos and playing them on guitar, transcribing these solos will also help develop your ears.  He told us his ideas on phrasing and how to leave phrases unresolved, he regards this as his musical equivalent of a question mark.

Carl used to teach in the Australian Institute of Music and also in Brunel University in London, and he is currently gigging with his band Dangerfunk.
