June 2009

Well my year at Guitar-X is done and dusted now and it went unbelievably fast! I can easily say it is one of the best decisions I’ve made in my young life and sadly it’s over for a year because I’m going to take a year off before I return to hopefully do my BMus degree at Guitar-X (in conjunction with Thames Valley University).

All I can really say in this diary is that I’ve been taught so much about music. Even stuff which I didn’t think I wanted to know about music, but it’s useful to have all these extra little bits of information at my disposal. I feel that over the past year I’ve matured dramatically and I feel I’m not just a bedroom player any more. It’s like I’m a musician who doesn’t just listen to rock and play the guitar! I’ll give anything a listen now.  Because of being around other people who see things differently to how I do, I feel I’ve made a lot of good friends with students and some of the teachers as well. I’ll do my best to keep in contact with them all! As for Guitar-X transforming me into a musician, I am tempted to pick up the bass guitar and drums as well just to broaden my horizons.

But don’t come to Guitar-X thinking you’re going to walk out being the next best thing (I’m not saying it's not possible ) but if that’s what you want, be prepared to put in the hours of work to get there and if that doesn’t work just keep practising and you’ll eventually get there. Femi said to my class and I presume all the other classes, “what you’ve learnt here is only the beginning and the information we’ve given you is enough, it’s up to you how you want to use it”, Femi also said “The most important year is the year after this course, because there’s no point in getting all the information and not using it once you’ve left”. And with those wise words from Femi I’m going to be partying like mad but practising even harder!

I’m going to miss Guitar-X/TMS a great deal. Like I said I’ve made excellent friends here and the teachers/staff are also amazing so I’m going to miss it all and hopefully be back in a year’s time for the degree!

Thanks to Marshall and everyone at TMS for giving me such an amazing year!

Oh, almost forgot about the Graduation Gig at Shepherds Bush Empire in June. It was spectacular and a good laugh at the same time, just amazing!

Thanks for reading
