Delivered by our experienced teaching team, the Part-time Courses offer a great range of
skills and techniques for most levels, from the complete beginner to the advanced
intermediate.

FOUNDATION 1

Basic instrument set-up (stringing, tuning and maintenance)

Left/right hand technique (basic co-ordination, finger exercises, string crossing)

Time and Feel

Theory (intervals, basic scales and triads)

Stylistic skills (repertoire, players and techniques)

Reading (basic note values, rests and pitch)

Aural (simple intervals / triads)

FOUNDATION 2

Left/right hand technique (articulation, muting)

Time and Feel

Theory (inversions, 4 note chords, arpeggios and interval formulae)

Fretboard Skills (triad inversions, arpeggios and scale shapes)

Further stylistic skills

Reading (triplet and shuffle feels, accidentals)

Aural (Compound intervals / chords)

INTERMEDIATE 1

Left/right hand technique (stamina exercises and legato techniques)

Time and Feel

Theory (harmonised major scale, pentatonics)

Fretboard Skills (pentatonics, scales and arpeggios)

Reading (key signatures, chord charts and rehearsal charts)

Aural (Chord progressions / double stops)

INTERMEDIATE 2

Left/right hand technique (slapping and two handed tapping)

Time and Feel

Theory (chord/scale relationships as a basis for improvisation)

Fretboard Skills (soloing using triads, arpeggios, scales. Intro to position playing)

Stylistic skills (application of the above and soloing)

Reading (odd time signatures and full chart reading)

Aural (Scales / complex chord progressions)

 

Entrance is through our assessment procedure. We place no limit on age or previous
